Vintage Bicycle Celebration
2017 Special feature for Vintage Bicycles!
The Santa Fe Century is happy to partner with Classic Bicycles of New Mexico in bringing you our Vintage Bicycle Celebration. This year we are recognizing anyone riding a vintage, classic, historical or vintage style bicycle known in Italian as "Bici Eroiche". If you have one of these style of bikes, join us in a pageant of bikes on Saturday and receive a special commemorative medal.
Riders of vintage bicycles are encouraged to participate in any of the rides we offer and dress in period style clothing (although ASTM approved helmets are MANDATORY for all riders).
What qualifies as Vintage?
To qualify as a Bici Eroiche, your bicycle should have been built around 1987 or earlier (although "Vintage Style Bikes" with steel frame from recent construction with vintage look and characteristics may be used). If the bicycle is geared, it should have shift levers on the down tube of the frame (exceptions include pre-1980 non indexed bar-end shifters and rod/hand manual operated front derailleurs). Your pedals should be with toe clips and straps, or for older bikes, you should have the original pedals, or something like the originals. The brake cables should pass outside and over the handlebars (cables can pass inside the frame). Tubular tires are appreciated, but optional.
Concours d'Elegance on Saturday, May 20th
A pageant of bikes will be held on Saturday during registration and packet pickup. All vintage bikes are invited to arrive by 5:00pm and participate. Participants will receive a special Santa Fe Century medal.
Commemorative Number Plate
Vintage bikes will be given a commemorative frame-mount number plate, in addition to their Century bib number.
